Ritter’s Frozen Custard will offer a free scoop of custard Sunday to children to celebrate National Ice Cream Day.
Established in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan to recognize the dairy and ice cream industry, each year National Ice Cream Day and Month take place in July during a time where Americans can fully enjoy the effects of a cool scoop of ice cream.
This is the third year Ritter’s, 3845 Lake City Highway, Warsaw, has celebrated National Ice Cream Day.
“We think of this as a way to celebrate ice cream with the community and give back,” said Robert Cunningham, Ritter’s general manager. Cunningham said it is rewarding to see children’s faces light up when they receive a free scoop of custard.
On Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., children will receive a free scoop of frozen custard in a cone or dish.
There also will be free balloons for children, and sidewalk chalk will be available for children to use Sunday at the business.
Cunningham said the business has previously given away free custard scoops on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Grandparents’ Day.
On Saturday, adults will receive a $1 discount on sundaes from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The business also will have discounts on quarts of custard Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Ritter’s Frozen Custard was founded by John and Bonnie Ritter in 1989 in Franklin, after perfecting their own frozen custard recipe.
Since its debut, Ritter’s has grown nationwide to 31 locations, when they began franchising the concept in 1995.
