Richardson-Dubois Park Gets New Picnic Shelter

Posted
Richardson-Dubois Park in Warsaw is getting a new picnic shelter.

The shelter is at 700 E. Market St., west of Fribley Field.

Work on the picnic shelter began July 26, and is expected to be completed by September, according to Larry Plummer, Warsaw Parks Department superintendent.

Work is being done by park department personnel.

“By doing work of this sort with our skilled personnel we are able to cut the cost of the project dramatically,” Plummer said.

The estimated cost of the project is $7,000.

The new shelter was budgeted for in the parks department’s 2012 budget, approved by the park board and city council.

The existing shelter will be torn down.

“This is something that was noted in our 10-year maintenance plan to replace the shelter due to its uneven concrete and sinking roof line,” Plummer said.

Plummer said the shelter also will tie into the Ride-Walk Warsaw-Winona bike and pedestrian plan when it eventually runs down Market Street.

“This shelter will give walkers and riders an opportunity to stop and rest,” Plummer said.

Plummer said the shelter will be available for rental for family outings.
