A poker run and hog roast to raise funds for Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice is in June. Rex’s Rendezvous 35th Annual Poker Run and Hog Roast is June 7 with registration at noon and bikes out at 1:30 p.m. Last year there were 79 riders and $2,000 was raised for local hospice services. The business is at 204 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw. Cost is $20 per rider and $5 for passengers. There will be a dinner to follow for $8 and it is open to the community. Fred Holst, Warsaw, will cook the hog. During an interview Wednesday, Rex’s Rendezvous owner Robin Watters said funds were raised for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society the first 10 years, for the Kosciusko Multiple Sclerosis organization for 15 years, and for Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice the last 10 years. “A lot of my customers have benefited from hospice services,” Watters said. He said he hopes the riders have a good time and raise funds for those in need of hospice care. Jeanne DeWilde, Kosciusko Home Care & Hospice nurse, said the fundraiser is needed. DeWilde has been a hospice nurse for 24 years. “There are a lot of patients who have no funds whatsoever, and the fundraiser will help out with medical expenses and other needs such as purchasing hospital beds and bedside commodes,” DeWilde said. The organization currently serves 20 patients and volunteers go into homes and nursing homes to assist with hospice care. “This county is in a lot of need for assistance with hospice care. Hospice is not just for cancer patients, it’s also for patients with any terminal illness such as heart disease, kidney disease, lung disease and liver disease,” DeWilde said. Brenda Gervais, Kosciusko Home Care & Hospice volunteer for the past 10 years, said volunteers stay with clients when caregivers go out. She said she and her husband, Patrick, will ride their motorcycle during the benefit.
