April showers have indeed brought May flowers, but will also slow watercraft on local lakes. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has ordered all motorized watercraft to keep to only an idle speed on nine Kosciusko County lakes after rains have risen waters to “unusual levels.” “Until the threat of high water has passed and the order is lifted,” craft on Tippecanoe Lake, Oswego Lake, James Lake, Big Barbee Lake, Little Barbee Lake, Irish Lake, Kuhn Lake, Sawmill Lake and Sechrist Lake cannot accelerate above idle speed, the order says. It was signed Friday by Indiana Department of Natural Resources Director Robert E. Carter. The Times-Union will report when the order is lifted. Law enforcement, Department of Natural Resources officials and emergency personnel are exempt from the order. Notices of the order are placed at places of entry at each lake.
