Americans create 250 million tons of trash each year. Thirty percent of this trash is recycled and returns to us as new products. That leaves 175 million tons to be thrown away. “Away” being into one of our nation’s landfills, where this waste will lay forever. This spring, the KC Recycling Depot encourages residents to “rethink” their trash. Enter the second Trash to Treasure contest being held April 13 at the Warsaw Community Public Library. Artists may drop off their pieces at the library between 10 and 11 a.m. Judging, by volunteers from Lakeland Art Association, will begin at 11 a.m. and winners will be announced at noon. There will be four divisions: elementary, middle school, high school and adult. All visitors will be able to vote for the “people’s choice” award. Register and learn contest details by April 10 by contacting the KC Recycling Depot at 574-372-3087, the WCPL reference desk or check out www.kcrecycling.com There will be gift card prizes for the winners.
