You can play golf Friday and help provide scholorships to familes of fallen or disabled soldiers at the same time.
Raccoon Run Golf Course in Warsaw is participating in Patriot Golf Day, a nationwide fundraising effort to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation.
There will be no greens fees charged at Raccoon Run Friday. Instead, golfers will be asked to make a donation to Folds of Honor.Folds of Honor carries the motto "Honoring the Fallen, Building the Legacy." According to foldsofhonor.org, it is a legacy foundation designed to "provide educational scholarships for dependents and spouses of service members who are either killed or disabled while serving and defending our great nation."
Folds of Honor Foundation was founded by PGA Professional Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard. Rooney has served two tours in Iraq and will be returning for another tour this summer. "We have lost more than 4,000 soldiers. They have given the ultimate sacrifice. America can come together in the spirit of golf and have a dramatic impact. We have an opportunity to make a difference for the families who have made the ultimate sacrifice."
Patriot Golf Day is sponsored nationwide by the Professional Golfers Assocation of American and the United States Golf Association. In 2007, more than 3,200 golf courses nationwide took part, raising more than $1.4 million.
