Queen's Kiss Auction Goes to Young Friend from Haiti

Posted
The Queen’s Kiss auction Friday went to a young friend of the 4-H queen from Haiti.
For a purchase price of $3,065, Queen Kristin Quick was reunited with Pierre, a boy she met while on a recent missions trip to Haiti. Pierre, who will be 5 in fall, now lives with a pastor and the pastor’s wife in Decatur.
The boy is on a medical visa for treatment of his cerebral palsy until the adoption is final, according to Matt Sausaman with Kosciusko County 4-H, who took Kristin and her stepdad on the missions trip to Haiti. He added his recovery has taken tremendous strides since coming to America.
Pastor Rocky and wife Lilly Evans held a series of fundraisers last year to be able to bring Pierre to Indiana. Sausaman said the boy spent about three years in a Mission of Hope orphanage after his mother left him there at 18 months old.
Quick got in touch with the Evans when she learned Pierre was with them.
“She told them she would love to give her queen kiss to Pierre,” Sausaman said. “Kristin’s not an ordinary teenager, and this is how she wanted her 4-H career to end.”
Quick donated the auction money, which came from a group of about 50 families who united as the Kiss of Hope Group, to the new dairy barn at the fairgrounds.
The 4-H King kiss brought in $1,200 for King Jake Templin. The proceeds, which came from the Kiss and Tell Group, will go toward the Kosciusko County 4-H Livestock Judging Team.
