Queen Of Lakes Pageant, Cutie Queen Apps Being Accepted

NORTH WEBSTER - The North Webster Lions Club 65th annual Mermaid Festival is rapidly approaching.

One of the highlights of the festival is the Queen of Lakes Pageant.

The pageant includes swimsuit and evening gown competitions, but with local stars.

The pageant is open to girls 16 to 23 years old.

The Queen of Lakes has a 65-year history.

An organizational meeting for candidates will be at 10 a.m. June 12 at the North Webster Community Center, Ind. 13, with entrance at the back of the building.

Applications for the Queen of Lakes Pageant must be received no later than June 12 for participation in the pageant.

The Queen of Lakes Pageant will be held June 19 at the North Webster Community Center.

Contestants must arrive by 10 a.m. All contestants must participate in the Mermaid Festival parade at 4 p.m. and then participate in the Queen of Lakes Pageant at 7 p.m. to be held at the NWCC.

The Shoop Sports and Youth Foundation Inc will provide scholarships totaling $5,000 that will be awarded to the Queen of Lakes and her court.

The Lioness Club will provide a $100 Community Service Award and a Miss Congeniality award.

Queen of Lakes parade prize scholarships awarded by the Shoop Sports and Youth Foundation Inc. will total $1,500.

The North Webster Lioness Club also is working on the 65th annual Mermaid Festival Cutie Contest.

This year the theme is "Caribbean Nights." One of the more popular events of the festival is the Cutie Queen and King Pageant.

The pageant is open to girls and boys between the ages of 4 and 6 as of June 1.

Applications for the Cutie King & Queen Pageant must be received no later than June 8 for participation in the pageant.

Various local businesses also have applications.

The pageant will be held on June 18 at the NWCC at 7 p.m.

All contestants must participate in the Mermaid Festival Cutie Parade at 6:30 p.m. June 16.

The Shoop Sports and Youth Foundation Inc. will provide scholarships totaling $30,000 for the parade. Scholarships totaling $20,000 will be provided for the pageant.
