Property Taxes Due May 10, Nov. 13

Posted
Property taxes in Kosciusko County will be due May 10 and Nov. 13.

Payments may be made in person at the treasurer’s office located in the Courthouse at 100 W. Center St., Warsaw.

There is a ground-level entrance on the west side of the Courthouse with access to the elevator to take taxpayers to the second floor.

Payment can be in the form of cash, check or money order.

Debit and credit cards are taken in the office but require an additional 2.95 percent convenience fee that is retained by the company providing the card-processing service.

If payments are mailed, they should be sent to Kosciusko County Treasurer, P.O. Box 1764, Warsaw, IN 46581.

Spring payments must be postmarked by May 10.

Payments received with a postmark after May 10 are subject to penalties.  Taxpayers should include a self-addressed stamped envelope and the entire bill for the return of a receipt.

Taxes may be paid at Crossroads, Campbell and Fetter, PNC, MutualBank, Tower Bank and Farmers State Bank. Lake City Bank branches will start taking tax payments April 23.

Taxes may be paid online with a credit card at www.kosciuskotax.net with a 2.95 percent convenience fee that is retained by the credit card company providing the card-processing service.  Credit and debit cards may be used by phoning 800-809-5849. A convenience fee will also apply.

Included in the property tax bill mailing is the Tax Summary 1 (TS1) which has “Special Message To Property Owner” printed on the top.

This form provides information on the property’s assessed value, exemptions, ditches and the detailed tax rates as well as percentages of increase or decrease in taxes.

Taxpayers have 45 days from the date printed on the TS 1 form to file an appeal in the County Assessor’s Office if they do not agree with the assessed value of the property.

Also, if you have a homestead credit on your property but have not previously completed the pink Homestead Verification Form you will need to do so this year or risk losing your homestead credit.

Property owners who claim the property as their full-time permanent residence must return the form to the Auditor’s Office at 100 W. Center St., RM 220, Warsaw, IN 46580 to retain their homestead credit. Taxpayers are entitled to only one homestead credit in Indiana. Taxpayers may check their TS 1 form under Table 5 to verify they are receiving the homestead credit.

If you are receiving the homestead credit and do not receive a pink form that indicates you have already returned the form to the Kosciusko County Auditor’s Office, nothing further is required.
