Property Tax Rally Sept. 20 In Warsaw

Posted
A property tax repeal rally to educate property owners, elected officials and legislatures about methods to repeal property taxes will be held in Warsaw.

Eric Miller, attorney and founder of Advance America, and representatives from the organization will discuss a permanent solution to the property tax crisis.

The rally will be held Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at Center Lake Pavilion.

Miller, who ran in the 2004 Republican primary against Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, said the rally is open to all citizens who are concerned about property taxes.

Miller will provide information and a presentation on options to reduce property taxes during the rally.

The mission of Advance America is to inform and educate citizens in Indiana how government works and what they can do to make a difference on issues of importance to them, Miller said.

The organization was founded in 1980 to inform individuals about what is occurring in state government and activity in the General Assembly by a 24-hour toll-free hot line, business faxes, mailings and speaking engagements.

Advance America staff read and review every bill filed in the Indiana Assembly and evaluate the bills.

They offer testimony before legislative committees, talk directly with legislators and train people how to lobby.

The grassroots network includes more than 45,000 families, 1,500 businesses and more than 3,700 churches in Indiana.

The rallies have previously been held in Goshen, Kokomo and Muncie.

Miller said the rallies have been well-attended and allowed property owners to speak with local elected officials about property taxes.

"Like many counties in Indiana, Kosciusko County faced a high property tax increase this year," Miller said in a phone interview Wednesday afternoon.

"The only solution to permanently protect homeowners, senior citizens, farmers and businesses is to permanently repeal property taxes with a Constitutional amendment," Miller said.

Miller will present a plan for a Constitutional amendment to permanently repeal property taxes, along with an immediate solution to help property owners in Indiana this year with their property tax increases.
