Tax bills will be mailed to some Kosciusko County residents July 3, according to county treasurer Kent Adams.
Adams said Friday the 2007 property tax bills will be sent to all county property owners except those who pay into the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation.
Those receiving bills on July 3 will have until September 10 to pay half of the bill, and until November 13 to pay the other half. The county extended the usual 15-day tax-collection period this year, Adams said, because the property value trending process caused delays.
Tax rates for some properties will be higher than in previous years and the state legislature approved a refund program earlier this year. Adams said the amount of relief the refund program will provide is still unknown.
Taxpayers have several options for making payments. Tax payments can be made at the treasurer's office in the courthouse or by credit card at 1-800-809-5849. Payments can also be made online at www.kosciuskotax.net. Local banks - Campbell-Fretter Bank, Farmers State Bank, First Federal Savings Bank-Syracuse, Lake City Bank, Mutual Federal Savings Bank and National City Bank - will accept payments from Aug. 10 to Sept. 10.
Chief deputy treasurer Cindy Nolton said payments made by mail to P.O. Box 1764, Warsaw, provide the quickest turn around in getting tax dollars distributed back to local cities, townships and schools in the county. "I encourage property owners to mail their tax payments," Nolton said.
Adams said the TVSC district will not receive bills on July 3 because the district lies partially in Fulton County. Due to delays caused by this year's trending process, Fulton County has not yet completed the certification of assessed property values.
"Until they do, Kosciusko County's rates cannot be set for these taxing units," Adams said. "They're going to receive a bill sometime, we just don't know when."
TVSC includes Franklin, Harrison and Seward townships and the taxing units of Burket, Mentone-Franklin and Mentone-Harrison.
