Prep Roundup: Wawasee Falls To Western To Place 2nd At Team State

FORT WAYNE – A sudden-death loss kept the Wawasee wrestling team from winning the Class 2A team championship?Saturday at the Fort Wayne Coliseum.
The Warriors finished second after falling 34-31 to Western.
The match was tied at 31 with the 145-pound match to go.
Wawasee’s Garrett Stuckman and Western’s Dylan Goudy were tied at 8 at the end of regulation, but Goudy earned two sudden-death points in overtime to give Western the victory and state championship title.
Wawasee started the day with a 65-14 rout of Rochester, before beating Edgewood 38-29 and North Montgomery 49-20.
Moore Leads?Manchester To Second At Invitational
KENDALLVILLE – Delton Moore continued to dominate on the mat to lead the Manchester wrestling team to a second-place finish Saturday at the East Noble Invitational.
Manchester racked up 210.5 points to place second behind Huntington North (212 points).
Moore won the invite’s Outstanding Wrestler?Award after tallying 14 takedowns and pinning each of his opponents in the 170-pound class.
Trescott Duffy (182) and Bryce Kamphues (285) also went undefeated to win their respective weight classes.
“Both are wrestling well and building momentum heading into the tournament series,” said Manchester coach Byron Sweet.
Dylan Stroud (120), Kevin Morales (145), Ashton Moore (195) and Trevor Dill (220) all finished second in their respective weight classes.
Wawasee Splits Difference At Goshen
GOSHEN – The?Wawasee girls swimming and diving team won 101-85 Saturday at Goshen, while the boys lost 102-84.
On the girls side, Wawasee’s Ella Park won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:07.65 and the 500 freestyle in 5:35.57, while Alexandra Haberman won the 50 freestyle in 28.13 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 1:01.37.
Wawasee’s team of Caitlin Kingrey,?Rileigh Atwood, Haberman and Park won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:52.22, while the same squad won the 400 freestyle relay in 4:12.85.
Atwood took first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.66.
On the boys side, Wawasee’s Jared Krugman won the 200 freestyle in 1:51.40 and the 500 freestyle in 4:59.04, while Karlson Hand finished first in the 200 IM in 2:12.53 and Brady?Claassen won the 1-meter diving competition with a total score of 239.8.
Alexander Troutman won the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.48 for the?Warriors.
Whitko Tops Fairfield At West Noble Invite
LIGONIER – The Whitko wrestling team placed ninth at Saturday’s West Noble Invite.
Whitko’s lone win of the day was 36-30 over Fairfield.
Standing out for the Wildcats were Kyle Reed, who went 3-1 at 126 pounds, and RJ Patrick (160) who went 1-0. Brady?Mitchell (170), Michael?Conner (182), Daulton Webb (195) and Jarrett Ocken (220) all went 3-2.
Warsaw Swimmers Fall To Concord
The Warsaw boys and girls swimming and diving teams were swept in a home meet Saturday against Concord.
The boys lost 124-62, while the girls fell 130-55.
Concord’s boys team won all 12 events.
On the girls side, Delaney Wihebrink won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.76 and the 200 IM in 2:15.04.
Valley Edged By Plymouth
PLYMOUTH – Parkur Dalrymple scored 23 points, but the Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team lost 56-50 Saturday at Plymouth.
Valley trailed by one point after the first quarter and led by one at halftime. However, the Vikings were outscored 14-7 in the third quarter, and couldn’t make up the difference in the fourth.

Whitko Falls Short Against Rochester
ROCHESTER – Ellie Snep set the Whitko girls basketball program’s all-time rebounding record in the Lady?Wildcats’ 43-37 loss Saturday at Rochester.
Snep finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds to bring her career total to 769 rebounds.
The previous record was held by Rachel Brown, who racked up 767 rebounds at Whitko from 1993-96.
“If you look at the fact that first, we have some incredible players in our program and secondly, that Ellie pretty much broke the record over the course of two seasons, I think that breaking the rebound record is an incredible accomplishment for her,” Whitko coach Rick Bragg said.
Whitko and Rochester were deadlocked at 10 after the first quarter, and the Lady Wildcats trailed by one point at halftime.
The Lady Zebras extended the difference to six after three quarters, and an even fourth-quarter score sealed the win for Rochester.
Whitko played with just four players in the fourth quarter for the second straight game.
Maci Brown led Rochester with 10 points.
Emalee Duggins and Sarah Hewitt scored six points each for the?Lady Wildcats (3-9), who will host Norwell?Wednesday.
SYRACUSE – Jada Carter scored 12 points, but the Wawasee girls basketball team lost 72-34 Saturday in a Northern Lakes?Conference home game against NorthWood.
The Lady?Panthers (14-4, 3-1 NLC) scored in double figures in each quarter, while Wawasee (3-13, 0-4 NLC) was limited to six points in the first quarter and two in the third.

Lakeland Christian Routed?By?Argos
ARGOS – Tori Calizo scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds, but the Lakeland Christian girls basketball team lost 48-28 Saturday at Argos.
Lakeland?Christian (10-8) was down 13-6 after the first quarter, and scored just two points in the second to trail 27-8 at halftime.
Despite a 15-point fourth quarter, the Lady?Cougars couldn’t make up the difference in the second half.
Abigail Fishel added six points for LCA, while Carly O’Hara grabbed six boards, Jessi Calizo registered six steals and Anna Reimink tallied five assists.
