Prep Roundup: Warsaw Baseball Team Falls To PlymouthThe Warsaw Tigers fell 14-7 to Plymouth in Northern Lakes Conference baseball action Friday evening. Plymouth pulled away by scoring three runs in the fourth inning, four in the fifth and three more in the sixth. With the loss, the host Tigers fell to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the NLC standings. Jared Hawley, Luke Baker and Alex Miller had two hits each for Warsaw. Baker hit a triple, while Miller pounded out a double and drove in two runs. Jeremy Drudge and Jesus Luva had three hits each for Plymouth. Warsaw’s Michael Nunez was charged with the loss on the mound after giving up four runs in 1-1/3 innings of relief of starter Jordan Jones. Luva was credited with the pitching win for Plymouth, giving up three hits and two runs in three innings. He walked two and struck out five. The Tigers are in action again today with a doubleheader at Kokomo.
Wildcats Continue Winning Ways SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko Wildcats continued their winning ways Friday, building a 6-0 lead en route to an 8-5 win over the Lakeland Lakers. Whitko improved to 11-1 on the season but did struggle with six errors. Lakeland, which fell to 1-7, committed five errors. The Wildcats scored three runs in the first inning, two in the third and one each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Lakeland narrowed the gap with four runs in the fifth inning and another in the seventh. Alex Robbins got the win on the mound for the Wildcats, giving up five hits, four runs and a walk in six innings of work. He struck out three. River West was 3 for 3 at the plate in the win with four RBIs and two stolen bases. The Wildcats host Three Rivers Conference foe Tippecanoe Valley Monday.
Squires Blank Columbia City NORTH MANCHESTER – Led by Fermin Guerrero and Hayes Sturtsman, the Manchester Squires beat the Columbia City Eagles 3-0 in high school baseball action Friday evening. Guerrero pitched five innings to get the win on the mound, giving up just two hits and a walk while striking out one. Sturtsman led the Squires at the plate with two hits and an RBI. “Fermen threw an excellent game,” said Manchester head coach Jack Rupley. “He only threw 44 pitches in five innings. We had real good defense behind him.” David McAtee, Mason Meyer, Kane Gable and Kam Lester all had one hit in the win, which improved the Squires to 6-2 on the season. Manchester is in action again today with a doubleheader at Churubusco.
Trojans Win On The Road FULTON – Despite getting just three hits, Triton’s varsity baseball team beat the host Caston Comets 4-3 Friday night. Triton scored three runs in the first inning and scored again in the third. Caston scored twice in the second inning and plated its final run in the third. The Comets outhit Triton 5-3, but committed three errors to the Trojans’ two. Max Slusser, Dylan Hensley and Nate Flenar had hits for Triton. Hensley was credited with the win on the mound. He struck out nine and walked three in five innings of work. The Trojans are in action again Monday when they host HNAC foe Knox.
Wawasee Drops NLC Game at N’Wood NAPPANEE – The Wawasee Warriors scored twice in the seventh inning Friday, but it wasn’t enough as they fell 7-2 in Northern Lakes Conference baseball action at NorthWood. The host Panthers scored three times in the third inning and four times in the fourth. NorthWood pounded out eight hits to Wawasee’s four. Spencer Prescott had two hits for Wawasee, while Jairus Boyer and Gavin Barker had one hit each in the loss. Carter Woody was charged with the loss on the mound after giving up six hits and six runs in three innings of work. He walked two and struck out two. Wawasee is now 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the NLC. The Warriors host their own invitational today and will play Heritage and Lowell.
Fretz Tosses 1-Hitter For Lady Warriors SYRACUSE – Meghan Fretz tossed a one-hitter and six different Wawasee batters got a hit as the Lady Warriors beat the visiting NorthWood Lady Panthers 7-0 in Northern Lakes Conference softball action Friday night. Wawasee scored twice in the second inning, added another run in the third, scored three times in the fourth and plated its final run in the fifth. Ale Brito, Leah DeSomer, Faith Swihart and Fretz all doubled in the win, while Madie Wilson and Aubrey Kuhn hit singles. Fretz and Swihart had two RBIs each. NorthWood, whose lone hit came from Sommer Stillson, committed three errors in the game. Wawasee travels to Northern Lakes Conference foe Northridge Monday. In the JV game, Madison Mottern and Grace Allen had three hits each as Wawasee won 1-0. The Lady Warrior JV team improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the NLC.
Dittmar Leads Lady Tigers To Win PLYMOUTH – Freshman Isabelle Dittmar was 3 for 4 at the plate and scored two runs in Warsaw’s 9-6 Northern Lakes Conference softball win at Plymouth Friday night. The Lady Tigers scored three runs in both the first and fifth innings and one run each in the second, fourth and sixth innings. Plymouth plated three in the first inning, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Abby Glass and Saylor Bradley had two hits each in the win. Courtney Chookie went the distance in the circle for Warsaw, giving up 10 hits, six runs and two walks. She struck out six. The Lady Tigers are in action again Monday when they entertain NLC rival NorthWood.
Whitko’s Snep Tosses 1-Hitter SOUTH WHITLEY – Ellie Snep tossed a one-hitter and Whitko’s varsity softball team beat visiting Central Noble 10-0 Friday evening. While the Lady Cougars struggled at the plate, Whitko pounded out 10 hits in the win. Kennedy Krull led the way with two doubles, while Emmalee Duggins had a double and a single and Anna Ousley, Shi Bradley and Andrea Snavely hit two singles each. The Lady Wildcats scored two runs in each of the first four innings to take control of the contest. Whitko is in action again today against South Bend Clay in the Wawasee Invitational.
