Prep Roundup: Warsaw Baseball Team Falls To Indian Creek

WESTFIELD – The Warsaw Tigers fell behind 4-0 Thursday evening and lost 6-2 to the Indian Creek Braves in high school baseball action at Grand Park in Westfield.

Indian Creek got on the board in the first inning after Dustin Sprong tripled and later scored on a groundout by Cody Grinder.

The Braves scored twice in the first inning, once in both the third and fourth innings, and tacked on two more in the seventh.

Warsaw scored one run each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Noah Burgh was charged with the loss on the mound. He gave up four runs and five hits while striking out six in six innings of work.

Matt Shoemaker, Josh Ehrlinger, Alex Light, Liam Patton and Burgh all had one hit each for the Tigers, who fell to 0-2 on the season.

Trevor Ankney got the win for the Braves. He allowed five hits and two runs while striking out eight over seven innings.

Warsaw is in action again April 10 in a game at county rival Tippecanoe Valley.



Valley Drops Baseball Opener To Fairfield

AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley’s Lucas Walters struck out 12 and threw five scoreless innings Thursday, but the Fairfield Falcons pulled out an 8-4 win.

Fairfield scored twice in the sixth inning and once in the seventh en route to the nonconference baseball win.

Wes Melanson had two hits for the Vikings, who are in action again on April 6 in a doubleheader at Triton.



Wawasee JV Cruises To Softball Win

ELKHART – Wawasee’s JV softball team lit up the scoreboard and rolled to a 28-10 win at Elkhart Central Thursday evening.

Allie Slone and Laney Gross had two hits each for the Lady Warriors, who improved to 2-1 on the season.

No varsity results were turned in.



Whitko Boys, Girls 3rd In County Meet

COLUMBIA CITY – Whitko’s boys and girls track teams both finished third in Wednesday’s Whitley County Meet.

Columbia City won the boys meet with 86 points, followed by Churubusco (52) and Whitko (30).

Cameron Sapp was the only winner for the Whitko boys team, winning the discus with a throw of 124-3.

Zack Freel (400), Gage Howard (discus) and the 4x400 team of Freel, Isaiah Pierce, Ashton Schuh and Clayton Ebbinghouse were runner-up finishers for the Wildcats.

In the girls meet, Churubusco edged Columbia City 75-73, while the Lady Wildcats were third with 18 points.
