The Indiana Department of Health has fined Prairie View Health Care Center in Warsaw $10,000.
According to department spokeswoman Margaret Joseph, the fine results from an April 23 complaint alleging neglect of a resident, in that Prairie View failed to adequately monitor an insulin-dependent diabetic resident, failed to properly notify residents' physicians and families, failed to monitor pressure areas to prevent sores, didn't provide respiratory care and failed to provide adequate supervision to prevent accidents.
Prairie View was inspected by the department on June 1 and the alleged deficiencies were noted.
"We fined the facility because the federal agency declined to do so," Joseph said. "We can't have the state and the federal governments both fining a facility for the same violation."
She added that a reinspection of Prairie View was conducted July 14 and all violations had been corrected, with the facility having written procedures in place for adequately monitoring patients and for deficiencies in the survey.
"Had they not corrected the violations, we would have imposed a $100 per day civil penalty until they were corrected," Joseph said.
