Police are warning residents to be wary of telephone calls about lottery winnings.
The most recent warning comes after an 88-year-old Winona Lake woman was talked out of sending $45,000 to claim her "prize."
According to a Warsaw Police Department report, officials at Teachers Credit Union contacted authorities when the woman came in Friday afternoon to make her withdrawal.
The woman reportedly "won" the Australian lottery and a man who called her residence told her she need to send the five-figure amount before the first installment of her prize could be delivered.
The woman already sent $269 to find out whether she won the lottery.
Police and bank officials explained to the woman that the call was most likely a fraud and she opted against sending the additional funds.
