Police Warn Of Credit Card Scam

Posted

Warsaw police are warning residents about a possible telephone credit card scam.

A Warsaw woman reported receiving a telephone call Thursday morning from a company called Consumer Alliance.

The caller told the woman that the company controls the interest rates on all credit cards and said a new black bar code for the back of her credit card would be sent to her. The caller said she needed the credit card number to verify sending out the correct bar code and without the new bar code, the woman would not receive the lowered interest rate.

The woman said she became suspicious and asked for a telephone number and said she would get her credit card and call them back. The caller said her name was Ann and gave a telephone number of 888-615-1558, Ext. 7136. When the woman returned the call to the company using that number, she learned it was disconnected and out of service.
