Police Warn Of Canadian Lottery Scam

Posted

Warsaw police again remind residents that there is no legitimate Canadian lottery being run via telephone calls to area residents.

Recently, several people have lost thousands of dollars in what Warsaw police said is a scam. A story warning area residents appeared in Saturday's Times-Union and complaints from new victims have been received since that time.

The victims in these scams are told that they have won a substantial amount of money and, if they remit the appropriate tax assessments, the "winnings" will be sent to them.

Anyone receiving such a call should not provide any personal information, including bank account or credit card numbers.

Police continue to issue warnings and urge residents not to comply with caller requests.

For more information or to report receiving a call, contact the Warsaw Police Department at 372-9511 or the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department at 267-5667.
