A multi-county burglary ring uncovered by police last month yielded more high-dollar items this week after Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. detectives searched properties of those allegedly involved. Last week, the Times-Union reported that authorities located four truck-loads of stolen goods, including a $15,000 motorcycle and a $10,000 tool chest, at two properties in the county Aug. 16. A man already in Kosciusko County Jail - 31-year-old Cory L. Riggins - was questioned then after police found a stash of stolen items at his Leesburg property, and Indiana State Police said then that Riggins and others were behind burglaries in Kosciusko, Fulton, Huntington, Allen and Whitley counties and that additional finds were expected. According to a police incident report, Riggins has continued to divulge information that has this week turned up another motorcycle, another toolbox and a trailer – all reportedly stolen. According to the report, Riggins told police that those items were in a barn rented to the brother of an accomplice. There, on Monday, police found neither man, but did find a motorcycle stolen out of Huntington and the license plate of a stolen motorcycle recovered in the Aug. 16 raids. Police called the owner of the property, who came to the barn with the tenant. The tenant, whose brother is believed to be in cahoots with Riggins, said he bought an SUV, a tool box and a motorcycle from Riggins’ wife for $1,500, without knowing they were stolen, the report said. Police noted that the items were stored in the barn out of plain view, according to the report. Two days later, detectives met with Riggins’ wife and another man believed to be involved in the heists. The woman gave police a cutting torch rig allegedly stolen, the report said.Detectives then went back to the barn, where a trailer stolen out of Marshall County, reportedly delivered there the day of the previous raids by an accomplice was found, according to the report. Police are not naming the other men believed to be involved in the ring, as they have not been arrested or charged. KCSD spokesman Sgt. Chad Hill said the investigation is ongoing, and more suspects, charges and arrests are likely, and more items are expected to be located.
