Police used a stun gun on a Warsaw Community High School student during a fight Monday morning. WCHS resource officer Dave Morales broke up a fight between two male juveniles. As the two were separated and were being escorted to the principal’s office, one juvenile managed to push Morales, landing blows to the other student, according to Lt. Kip Shuter, Warsaw Police Department public information officer. After Morales gave repeated orders for the juveniles to stop fighting, a Taser® was used to subdue one male student. “Most incidents at the high school are settled without the use of a Taser®,” Lt. Shuter stated. “This is probably the first time we’ve used a Taser® at the high school.” A Taser® is a non-lethal means to subdue a suspect, which causes no harm to anyone around. A person that gets hit by a stun gun normally doesn’t require medical attention unless the probes enter a sensitive body part, or have bleeding. Officers will treat a suspect on scene by treating the probed sites similar to a bee sting. A less-lethal incident report was filed while department protocol was followed, according to Shuter. No further information was available due to both students being juveniles.
