Police Say Man Threatened Them With A HatchetPIERCETON – A Pierceton man is facing intimidation and resisting law enforcement charges after allegedly threatening officers with a hatchet.
Terry Michael Hall, 49, of 6756 E. Old 30, Pierceton, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 1:40 a.m. Thursday for intimidation with a deadly weapon, resisting law enforcement with a deadly weapon and intimidation of law enforcement. His preliminary bond was set at $10,250.
Court documents filed Thursday list the charges against him as intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; possession of a narcotic drug, a level 6 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony; and resisting law enforcement, a level 6 felony.
On Wednesday, Pierceton Police Department officer Matthew D. Owens saw a Ford Explorer with one working brake light drive off the road on Pequinot Drive. He followed the SUV and conducted a traffic stop on it at a gas station. The driver, who was identified as Hall, seemed confused and irritated, according to court documents.
There were two passengers in the vehicle, including a woman and a male subject whose name was redacted from court documents.
Hall would not obey orders and continued to resist Owens. He began “aggressively” lunging at Owens in a “threatening” manner and stated, “You come at me, b****, it will be the last time, your last time,” the documents state.
The unidentified male subject refused to obey commands and stood between Hall and Owens.
Hall then threatened to shoot Owens.
Other officers arrived and handcuffed the male subject and removed him from the situation. He began fighting with and resisting officers.
Hall then picked up a hatchet and was swinging it around.
The woman attempted to calm Hall down and prevented him from attacking officers. Officers used a Taser to subdue and arrest Hall.
In their search of Hall, officers found a metal tube, two oxycodone pills and a plastic bag containing methamphetamine.
Wednesday’s incident wasn’t the first time Hall and the woman were pulled over and drugs found in Hall’s possession this year.
At 2:50 a.m. Jan. 13, Claypool Police Department officer Randy Bays conducted a traffic stop on Hall with the woman as his passenger.
He appeared to be very nervous and had red watery eyes, according to January court documents. When Bays asked him if he had any kind of alcoholic beverage to drink, Hall said he did. As Hall exited the vehicle, a red plastic straw with a white powder residue fell from his hand.
As Bays searched Hall, he found three more straws with residue in them and a glass smoking device. Another glass smoking device was found in the vehicle.
The residue tested positive for methamphetamine.
At the jail, Hall told Bays he had a pill in his pocket, which was identified as acetaminophen and oxycodone hydrochloride. He did not have a prescription for the pill.
In that case, Hall faced charges of possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony; possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
