SYRACUSE - Kari Lynn Zollinger, 34, 8237 E. Hatchery Road, Syracuse, was found dead Tuesday at 4 p.m. in her home.
Zollinger's mother, Sara Zollinger, with whom Kari lived, found her daughter and called the EMS to report that Kari was not breathing.
Kari, who was five months pregnant, was pronounced dead at the scene by the EMS. The coroner and county sheriff's department were called for assistance.
Sara told police Kari had been in and out of Goshen Hospital in the last few days complaining of severe abdominal pain.
The house was condemned Tuesday by the health department because of unsanitary conditions.
Kari has two other children, ages 15 and 9, who were sent to live with an aunt. Sara will stay with another daughter until other arrangements can be made.
The county's animal control officer was brought in to take charge of two dogs and several cats at the residence.
Kari's body was taken to Fort Wayne St. Joseph's Hospital for an autopsy. Local officials would not speculate on the cause of death, pending the results of the autopsy.
Police reports indicate there was a large bruise on Kari's abdomen near her left side.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
