A high-speed police pursuit led to the discovery of an alleged illegal methamphetamine drug lab Sunday.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department press release, the KCSD, North Webster and Syracuse police were in pursuit of a vehicle that fled from them. The pursuit ended in the driveway at 6939 E. CR 500N, near North Webster. The driver of the vehicle, Jeromi J. Beans, 26, of 6939 E. CR 500N, was arrested at the scene for fleeing law enforcement and possession of a sawed-off shotgun discovered in the car.
Officers then notified the Kosciusko County Drug Task Force that they smelled a strong odor of chemicals at the property. A subsequent search was performed, which led to the discovery of an alleged illegal methamphetamine lab in the garage of the residence.
Subsequent charges were filed against Bean in connection with the alleged drug lab and more state and federal charges are pending following further investigation, police said.
This was the second alleged methamphetamine drug lab at this location. On Aug. 5, 2002, officers from the Task Force discovered a larger scale lab and Beans was arrested at that time for the drug lab.
The Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab Team was called in to clean up the hazardous chemicals found on the property.
