Siamuel Stemen, 27, Plymouth, was in Kosciusko County Superior Court I today for his initial hearing for stalking his ex-wife.
Siamuel was charged with stalking, a Class C felony; criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor; and failure to stop, a Class B misdemeanor stemming from a car collision Friday.
Judge Duane Huffer addressed Siamuel and informed him that he was in court to hear the charges that the State of Indiana had filed against him in the matter.
Kosciusko County Prosecutor Dan Hampton read the charges against Siamuel. Huffer then asked Siamuel if he understood the charges against him.
“I don’t really understand how I can be charged with stalking, when it was my wife,” Siamuel said. “But that is something I will go over with my attorney.”
Huffer agreed that is something he would have to go over with his attorney.
Siamuel then requested that he be granted a court-appointed attorney to assist him in the matter. Huffer then asked Siamuel a series of questions aimed at finding out if he was an indigent.
Huffer asked Siamuel if he had any cash, bank accounts, real estate or vehicles that he owned.
“I own a 1995 Toyota truck, but it is in the impound right now,” Siamuel said.
As for the cash, bank accounts and real estate, Siamuel said he did not have any.
Huffer found that Siamuel was an indigent and issued him a court-appointed attorney. That attorney will meet with Siamuel soon and file their appearance on behalf of Siamuel with the court. Additionally, Huffer entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of Stemen.
Siamuel allegedly stalked and rammed his truck into his ex-wife’s vehicle in downtown Warsaw Friday. According to the Warsaw Police Department, Siamuel called his ex-wife, Kathryn Stemen, and informed her that he just watched her walk out of work, get into her car and drive downtown.
While downtown Siamuel pulled alongside Kathryn’s vehicle and yelled at her. Shortly after he drove next to her and swerved into her vehicle three times. Once Kathryn’s vehicle was in the yard of a home on Market Street near Bronson Street, Siamuel drove off.
Siamuel was later located by Edwardsburg, Mich., police after having attempting to cut his wrists. Edwardsburg police advised Siamuel was intoxicated and was transported to a hospital in Dowagiac, Mich. Edwardsburg police also located the Toyota Tacoma that showed damage consistent with the incident in Warsaw.
After being treated, Siamuel was transported to the Cass County Jail in Michigan, and held on a temporary felony warrant.
Siamuel was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Wednesday at 1:18 p.m. and booked on stalking charges. His bond was $10,000. At press time, Stemen had not bonded out.
His next court appearance will be Oct. 16 at 8:30 a.m.
