ATWOOD - A Plymouth man was seriously injured Sunday when the car he was driving was struck by a pickup at the intersection of U.S. 30 and CR 500W, near Atwood.
George Vendola, 53, of Plymouth, was airlifted from the scene to Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne. He suffered internal injuries and was unconscious at the scene. Vendola was listed in serious condition this morning at Parkview.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report, Vendola was eastbound on U.S. 30 when a pickup driven by 19-year-old Shaun C. Owens, of West CR 200N, Warsaw, pulled across the highway in front of him. The accident occurred about 11:54 a.m.
The vehicles collided and the impact pushed Vendola's car into the ditch on the south side of the road.
Owens complained of neck pain and was treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital and released.
Also injured was a passenger in Vendola's car, Cameron G. Lawton, 8, of Plymouth. He suffered internal injuries and was treated at KCH and released.
Police said that at the time of the accident Vendola was en route to Parkview, where Lawton's father was hospitalized because of injuries he suffered in a Fulton County traffic accident.
