PLYMOUTH - A South Whitley man was killed in a one-vehicle accident Wednesday morning on U.S. 30, near Plymouth.

Robert D. Bernhard, 66, of North Jefferson Street, suffered chest injuries and was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.

According to an Indiana State Police report, Bernhard was westbound on U.S. 30 at King Road when his truck went off the road for an unknown reason and struck a light pole. Bernhard was not wearing a seat belt, according to police. The accident report indicated that injuries could have been prevented if Bernhard was using a seat belt.

Assisting at the scene were deputies from the Marshall County Sheriff's Department.
