SYRACUSE -ÊA plaque will be posted on the Syracuse Community Center to recognize the supporters and elected officials who helped get the center built.
Thursday, the Syracuse Park Board held a special meeting to finalize the names on the plaque.
Park board member Nancy Duehmig suggested adding late town councilman Bill Cutter to the plaque since he was an early supporter of the center.
"I just thought that he and Carol Koble were the ones on the town council who were for this from the beginning," she said.
Bill Wight, board president, said the dedication plaque should identify the people who initiated the project.
The board also discussed if the plaque should say Lakeside Park Community Center or Syracuse Community Center. Bill Musser said it should say Syracuse.
"I personally like Syracuse," he said, because everything else in town has a different name, like Wawasee, instead of Syracuse.
The town board told Syracuse Parks and Recreation Superintendent Mike Hixenbaugh to work with the architect on the background for the plaque.
The board approved the plaque with the understanding that all those whose names appear on it will get to see and approve their names. The plaque is being purchased from Burkhart Advertising Inc.
In March, the park board also approved having a work session for the park department's master plan.
Hixenbaugh told the park board he'd like to pursue and get a special account set up for the community center. By setting up a nonreverting fund, programs can be set up and paid for easier, he said.
Wight told Hixenbaugh to bring more information on such an account to the next park board meeting.
Hixenbaugh said the town council still will have to approve such an account.
The park board meets on the second Monday of every month. Members are Wight, Duehmig, Jerry Riffle, Musser, Larry Seigle and Lynn Allegret.
