Pike Lake Remains Open Despite Oily Sheen from Boat Traffic

Despite a report of an “oily sheen” near the beach area of Pike Lake Thursday, the lake remains open and local officials say there is no risk in swimming or fishing on the Warsaw lake.
Kosciusko County Emergency Management, Warsaw Fire Department and a Department of Natural Resources officer were called to Pike Lake just before 4 p.m. Thursday when someone reported noticing an oily sheen on the lake.
After an investigation by Emergency Management, it appears the accumulation came after heavy boat traffic from the holiday weekend.
The lake and beach area remain open.
According to Emergency Management, some protective measures were taken to ensure the lake was safe to swim and fish in.
