PIERCETON - The senior center building on First and Market streets should be open as planned by the week of Dec. 11, town council members heard from Bob Murphy Monday.

The facility also will house town offices and vehicles, and occupies the place where the Perry Building once stood.

A planning meeting is scheduled for Friday at 2:30 p.m. regarding the building.

Murphy also presented a letter from the Pierceton Redevelopment Commission regarding a proposed tax abatement for Diesel Power LLC, a division of TTP Inc.

The communication authorizes the town to grant the tax abatement, which should be presented at the December meeting. A confirming resolution was approved for the requested abatement.

Members heard that the Cleveland Township - Pierceton fire department officers will be: chief, Gordon Baker; assistant chief, Merrit Hyndman; captain, Tom Meloy; first lieutenant, Gene Burkett; second lieutenant, J.A. Kreger Sr.; secretary, Paul Johnston; treasurer, Harold Barker; and training officers, Joe Lardino and Chuck See. These changes are effective Dec. 1.

In other business, the board:

• Heard from town superintendent Brad Bailey regarding the well-head protection plan. Bailey said a volunteer committee is needed for the state-mandated project.

• Heard that leaf pickup will continue until Thanksgiving.

• Heard from town marshal George Alexander that 33 citations were issued since the beginning of November, mostly for speeding violations.

• Tabled bids for next year's trash pickup pending review. Bids were received from Sweetheimers, Waste Management, Serv-All and Ameri-Waste.
