Posted
PIERCETON - The Pierceton Police Department is investigating the death of a Pierceton man found unresponsive in a home early Saturday.

Emergency personnel were called just after 10 a.m. Saturday to a home at 309 S. Maple St., Pierceton, and arrived to find a man unresponsive inside the home.

The man, 24-year-old Derrik J. Mast, was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, then airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Pierceton Town Marshal Tim Sammons said his department is investigating the death, and are awaiting toxicology reports.

Patt Kite, deputy coroner with the Allen County Coroner’s Office, said the office is performing a toxicology test this morning.

Sammons could not comment on whether anyone else was in the Maple Street home at the time.

Sammons said he’s awaiting more information on the incident before commenting further.

A partial obituary for Mast appears today on Page 3A.
