Pierceton Lions Club Celebrates 80 Years

PIERCETON - The Pierceton Lions Club is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a banquet.

The banquet is set for Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. at Pierceton Elementary School.

The Pierceton Lions Club organized Sept. 3, 1929, and its charter date was Sept. 5, 1929.

Pierceton Lions Club is looking forward to another year of serving the local community through cancer and diabetes control, leader dog training, speech and hearing, and support for the Eye Bank and School for the Blind in Indianapolis. Through community support, the club had a successful year of fundraising through a spring flower sale and its second annual issue of "Community Calendar." There are still some calendars for sale. Project Day yielded enough street collection to send three area diabetic children to Camp John Warvel for one week this summer.

Again, all third graders at Pierceton Elementary School received their student dictionaries from the Lions.

The Lions will hold the annual Halloween costume party and the visit from Santa and helpers at the community building for all area children.

Lions members continue to volunteer at the food pantry in Pierceton and have a team that regularly photo-screens area pre-schoolers for early detection of eye diseases.

When caught early these discrepancies are more often treated successfully.

Food sales stations were manned by Lion members at Oswego Trader Days, Pierceton Days with annual chicken barbecue, Art in the Park and the Tomato Festival.
