Pierceton Fire to Hold Open House for Prevention Week

PIERCETON – Town council members approved closing Market Street in front of the fire station and town hall Monday for the fire station’s open house Oct. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Fire chief Matt Brubaker made the request at Monday’s town council meeting.
The chief added that the open house is for Fire Prevention Week and a meal will be served.
Brubaker said the ladder truck passed inspection along with the pump on the engine truck recently. A report on the hoses hasn’t been returned, but the hoses will probably have to be replaced next year.
A woman approached the board about receiving a ticket for parking in a handicapped space downtown. In town after dark she was surprised to find the ticket because she didn’t notice any markings and wouldn’t have otherwise parked there.
“There’s a sign indicating a handicapped space across the street,” she said. “There were no blue lines along my space and the wheelchair logo was very faint.”
Councilman Jim Bumbaugh said he could see her point if she was parking there at night. Council president Mandy Espinoza said the council would look into it.
Councilman Ron Hall asked town manager Chip Hill to relate how he and two other town employees put out a car fire earlier in the week.
Hill said they just happened to be in the right place at the right time when a vehicle went by and they saw sparks. Hopping in a truck the men pursued the vehicle and flagged it to a stop. Armed with a fire extinguisher they lifted the car hood and put out the fire.
The next meeting is Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in town hall.
