PIERCETON – With town council president Mandy Espinoza on vacation, board members Ron Hall and Jim Bumbaugh fielded a brief meeting on Monday.
Town marshal Tim Sammons thanked Pierceton Days organizer Kim Rose, who did not attend the meeting, for all her work with another successful festival.
Sammons said moving the car show to the west side Market Street had many benefits. In the past the popular display has been on Ind. 13 with traffic diverted through residential areas. Sammons said there were no complaints about box trucks, semi tractor-trailers and other large vehicles cutting corners in people's yards this year.
With work being done on a Ind. 15 bridge in Claypool, traffic has been diverted to Ind. 13 this summer and Sammons didn't want the additional traffic traveling throughout the neighborhoods.
"The move to Market Street was a good one," he said. "The participants seemed to like it and no one complained about the exhibit outside their houses."
Sammons just returned from a DARE conference where he earned state-mandated additional training. He said he received new information about grant opportunities and presentation ideas.
He reminded people be on the lookout for kids walking and riding bicycles on the way to school. The first day of school is Wednesday.
The marshal noted that the reserve officers have been on patrol and were a big help during Pierceton Days. KEMRAD also volunteered time during the festival.
Utilities manager Chip Hill said there are still "issues" at the water plant where new equipment has been installed and construction is being completed.
The town is withholding the last $80,000 from the contractor until a series of small projects, cosmetic finishing and controls are fine-tuned.
