PIERCETON – The Pierceton Town Council heard the town’s chamber of commerce pitch to increase membership and awareness.
Jim Townsend, president of the Pierceton Chamber of Commerce, said he was looking to drive up membership among both Pierceton businesses and residents.
“I’m concerned about the long-term health of town,” said Townsend.
Townsend said if Pierceton continues on a downward slide, the town will end up like Larwill.
Townsend said that Pierceton is helped by the fact that 80 percent of lake traffic comes through Pierceton.
Townsend said he is working on putting together a newspaper he will mail out to all Pierceton residents and those with rural addresses.
The newspaper is meant to highlight businesses in town and convince other businesses and individuals to join.
Townsend reiterated that individuals can join the chamber.
Tim Sammons, Pierceton town marshal, said the mini-grant he applied for through the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office was approved for the e-Ticket program.
The full amount was awarded. Sammons said now he needs software and training through the Indiana Supreme Court.
Wednesday, officers will go through mandated-handgun and shotgun training qualification.
According to Matt Brubaker from the Pierceton Fire Department, Christmas lights will be hung around town Nov. 27.
Brubaker said the station had close to 500 kids come through for trick-or-treating.
The street department will collect leaves through next week, according to street superintendent Chip Hill.
The council approved the purchase of a new pickup truck for the department. The cost is $23,000 but doesn’t include the trade-in of the 12-year-old truck being replaced.
