Pedestrian Injured, Driver Cited after Incident at Motel

Posted
A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of Super 8 Wednesday morning after a manager called 911 on the driver for performing sexual activities in a vehicle while in their parking lot.
Jason M. Schue, 41, Smith Street, Warsaw, was struck in the knee by the 1998 Eagle driven by Russell K. Hardy, 43, of Heritage Drive, Pierceton. Schue was trying to prevent Hardy from fleeing the scene after Super 8 employees reported him and a female performing sexual activities in the parking lot after a Super 8 manager asked them to stop.
Schue sustained an injury to his right knee during the incident at around 8:42 a.m. but refused EMS treatment on scene. Hardy was issued several citations  later Wednesday.
Hardy had fled the scene before police arrived, but a witness obtained his license plate number and turned it in to police. That same witness confirmed Schue’s account.
Warsaw Police ran the plate and found the 1998 Eagle belonged to Kelly Davis, of Pierceton. Pierceton Police made contact at her residence where she informed them that her boyfriend, Hardy, left for work at ABC Industries in Winona Lake at 7 a.m. with her vehicle. She also informed police that the vehicle’s insurance had expired and she had not renewed the policy.
Police attempted to contact Hardy at work but were unable to. They then reached Hardy by phone, when he stated he had not been driving at a high rate of speed.
Hardy told police that he saw a male come toward his car yelling at him. He also stated that about four or five people were in the parking lot at the time.
Hardy claimed the man hit his vehicle from the front and then jumped onto the vehicle. Hardy left because he “knew the guy couldn’t have been hurt” and was unsure if all the people were attempting to hurt him.
Warsaw Police discovered that Hardy’s license was suspended. Hardy was issued citations for leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, driving while license is suspended and operating a vehicle without financial responsiblity.
No arrest has been made at this time.
