District 4 Warsaw City Councilman Jerry Patterson will not seek re-election.
Filing began Wednesday for Warsaw mayor, clerk-treasurer, and Warsaw City Council districts 1-5 and two at-large seats; town of Winona Lake clerk-treasurer and town council seats wards 1-5; and Syracuse town clerk and Syracuse Town Council districts 3, 4 and 5.
Patterson said he wanted to announce in November so others interested in running for the seat had the opportunity to seek the seat.
Patterson will continue to serve on the council this year until the last city council meeting in December.
Patterson said there are two reasons he is not seeking another term.
"I feel it is time to give a new person the opportunity to serve the community," Patterson said. "Also, my wife and I will be spending our winters at our home in Arizona."
He said, during his term he has had the pleasure of working with two mayors and councilmen who, he said, have a heart for the people in the community.
"I am grateful I had the opportunity to get to know each and every one of them," Patterson said.
