Jerry Patterson was nominated and approved as president of the Warsaw city council for the fifth year Monday.
Patterson, beginning his fifth term on the council, represents District 4.
During the short meeting, the council reviewed a rate hike request by Indiana-American Water Co.
The proposed increases are:

If approved, the new rates would be effective in the fall.
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission evidentiary hearing regarding the rates is set for Jan. 13 at 9:30 a.m. in Indianapolis. A field hearing, where the public may make comments, is set for Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. at Indiana University Northwest's Savannah Auditorium at 3400 Broadway in Gary. Warsaw Fire Chief Matt Warren indicated he would attend the Jan. 13 meeting.
Councilman George Clemens was named to the traffic commission and Bob Morrison to the aviation board.
In other business, the board:
Heard the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns will hold a seminar for newly elected officials Jan. 14 and 15 and a legislative conference Jan. 26 and 27. Mayor Ernie Wiggins said he will attend both sessions and Morrison said he would attend the seminar for newly elected officials.
Heard an open house for retiring Warsaw Police Department Capt. Paul Schmitt will be today from 2 to 5 p.m. at the police department.
City councilmen are: George Clemens, Jeff Grose, Bob Morrison, Jerry Patterson, Bill Rhoades, Charlie Smith and Joe Thallemer.
