Park Board To Hold Public Meeting Tuesday To Review Master Plan Survey

Posted
Warsaw Parks and Recreation Board will conduct a public meeting Tuesday to review results of a recent parks survey.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. following the regularly scheduled park board meeting at 6:15 p.m. at Center Lake Pavilion.

Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to provide input on the growth and development of Warsaw parks.

The park board is updating its master plan to guide decisions about park development for the next five to 20 years. The levels of growth, changing demographics and financial challenges in Warsaw make the master plan's development more important than ever.

The public meeting creates an opportunity for resident to have a say in the future of parks in their neighborhood, park land, trails and greenways, facilities and programs.

A key component to the master plan is public input.

"We need to know what the public wants for Warsaw Parks in order to ensure our master plan properly addresses their wants and needs," said Jon Garber, parks superintendent.

To gain information, a public written survey was recently conducted. Many residents responded to the call for feedback by completing the survey.

The purpose of the survey was to learn about the quality of programs and facilities, needs and desires of park users, and how to improve parks.

In general, residents seemed pleased with the quality and number of activities that are provided throughout the year.

On the other hand, residents did see room for improvements in park facilities, the promotion of facilities and activities and the funding and development of parks.

There also seemed to be a strong support for the following: walking and biking trails, concerts, special events, festivals and picnic areas.

A prevalent theme throughout the survey was the importance of the park department to operate and maintain city parks and to provide places for outdoor recreation.

There will be opportunities to review the draft plan and make comments before the plan is adopted by the park board.
