Posted
Wintry weather caused some of the Warsaw Schools elementary basketball games to be canceled this year.

At the Warsaw School Board meeting Monday night, parent Jeff Johnson pleaded for the school board to have the games rescheduled.

The school board agreed for the cancelled games to be made up. In addition, a group will devise a policy on canceled elementary school games so the board and athletic director know what to expect.Johnson was at the board meeting with his son and his son's friend. He said the boys work hard on their game. Through basketball, the boys developed a friendship.

He contacted several principals and Warsaw Athletic Director Joe Santa about rescheduling the games. Johnson said he was told that it would be too difficult to hire referees to officiate the makeup games. Johnson said he didn't believe that was true.

"These seven games - I think they deserve their seven games," Johnson said.

School Board President Deb Wiggins said the board understands there is a balance between athletics and academics. She made the motion for the games to be made up.
