PIERCETON - Paragon Medical Inc., following through to provide its clients with the "total solution," recently announced the acquisition of Rotobur-Doell.
The 50-year-old Fort Wayne firm has specialized in the manufacture of surgical instruments, focusing on the orthopedic market since the late 1980s, according to Tobias Buck, chairman and CEO of Paragon.
"The acquisition of the surgical instrument division of Rotobur-Doell is one more step toward the achievement of Paragon's long-term goal to provide a 'Total Solution' for the design, manufacture, delivery and management of surgical instrumentation with the health care marketplace," Buck said. "Our strategy has always been to become a full service provider for the health care community."
Paragon Medical, twice selected as one of the top 100 high-growth companies in Indiana, recently completed a 40,000-square-foot expansion of its Pierceton facility. All Rotobur-Doell medical instrument assets and personnel associated with the medical instrument business will be relocated to the Pierceton facility.
"It (the acquisition) is a wonderful catalyst for the significant expansion we're going to enjoy in terms of the applications used by our existing client base," Buck said.
Rotobur-Doell began in 1948, specializing in regrinding, altering and manufacturing cutting tools, and has been a major manufacturer of sharp cutting instruments for hip, knee, shoulder, spinal and trauma procedures. The company assists orthopedic device manufacturers develop improved cutting geometries to help reduce cutting forces, heat, instrument wear, stress and power requirements during surgery.
The acquisition was finalized last week and the relocation of Rotobur-Doell assets and personnel should be complete by Oct. 1, Buck said.
