An Oregon man was airlifted Monday afternoon after his van collided with a semi trailer. Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and emergency personnel responded at 2:40 p.m. to the intersection of U.S. 30 and CR 750W after a 911 call of a crash. On arrival, a van was found pinned underneath a semi tractor-trailer. The driver of the van, Leland R. Kidder, 73, Oregon, had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was airlifted from the scene to Lutheran Memorial Hospital, in Fort Wayne, where he is listed in serious condition with a head injury. The driver of the semi, Elmer J. Toyer, 78, Middlebury, reported no injuries. Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team investigators state that an initial investigation determined that Toyer was northbound crossing U.S. 30 at CR 750W. Troyer told officers that he was attempting to pull onto U.S. 30 westbound and inadvertently pulled into the path of Kidder who was eastbound on U.S. 30. The crash remains under investigation at this time. Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. was assisted at the scene by Atwood Fire Department, Multi-Township EMS and KCSD.
