Treasures for Troops and The First Freewill Baptist Church of Kosciusko County would like to thank everyone who participated in Operation “TREAT” a Solider 2014.
“We appreciate every person who filled a treat bag and encouraged a deployed service member with a card or letter,” said Susan Manns, event organizer.
There were 324 treat bags collected that were divided and sent to 12 different deployed groups of the various armed forces throughout Afghanistan and one group in Kuwait. The 26 boxes containing treat bags were mailed out on Oct. 9 and 10. The total mailed was 826 pounds and nine ounces. The total cost to mail the 26 boxes was $1354.45.
Through donations and the $2 collected per donated treat bag, they were able to raise $829.25 toward the cost of shipping.
“With numbers like this it was truly a community effort and on behalf of everyone involved with Treasures for Troops we can't say thank you enough to everyone who helped make this possible,” Manns’ release states. “We would also like to thank the following area businesses who were pick up/drop off location for the treat bags. Thank you: Vein Institute and Medical Spa, Warsaw Community Public Library, Outdoor Living Center, Eagle Creek Firearms and Lake City Bank, Silver Lake. We would also like to say a special thank you to Eagle Outdoor Sign Co. and Dan Walcott for donating a billboard to help us get the word out ... as well as members of the Warsaw Sheriff’s Department and volunteers from the Town of Silver Lake who helped get all those heavy boxes loaded and to the post office for us.”
