Open House Held For New Boy Scout Cabin At SyracuseSYRACUSE - Boy Scout Troop 728 gathered at the doors of the new Scout Cabin in Syracuse during an open house Oct. 3.
The cabin, 10344 N. CR 500E, sits in a meadow surrounded by 20 acres of hardwood forest.
The Syracuse-Wawasee Rotary Charitable Foundation Inc., which was created by the Syracuse-Wawasee Rotary Club, owns the property and raised the funds for construction of the cabin beginning in October 2009.
"The community really came together to build the new Scout cabin," said Robert Smith, foundation president.
The project received donated materials and volunteer labor from the Scouts, local business organizations and individuals.
The cabin has a kitchen, two bathrooms, a double bay garage and a large meeting room.
Following the open house, an awards dinner and Eagle Scout ceremony was held. Visitors were treated to hamburgers and hot dogs cooked by the Scouts.
During the dinner, Smith, on behalf of Rotary, awarded individual appreciation plaques.
A perpetual sponsors plaque also was awarded that acknowledges the foundations' businesses and individuals who contributed to the success of the Scout cabin project.
The night's festivities continued as Scoutmaster Don Curry awarded Dustin Wolfe his Eagle Scout badge in hopes that many more Eagle Scouts will receive badges in the new cabin.
