A 72-year-old Warsaw man was arrested Saturday night after police say he tried to break into the First Federal Savings Bank with a hammer.
Warsaw police were called around 9:45 p.m. to the bank, located at 402 E. Center St., after witnesses reported seeing a silver car and a man with a hammer on the bank’s lot, according to Warsaw Police Dept. spokesman Kip Shuter.
As police arrived, officers noted hearing glass break, then seeing a man’s legs protruding from a window on the bank’s south side, Shuter said.
Buddy Lee Parum, of 221 S. High St., was arrested and preliminarily charged with attempted bank robbery, as well as public intoxication and operating a vehicle while intoxicated after police reportedly found him to be intoxicated. Parum is being held in Kosciusko County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
Shuter said officers searched the bank with K-9s but found no other suspects. Parum was treated at the scene for cuts to his hands from the window glass, Shuter said.
