Old Council Wraps Up Business, New Council Sworn In

Posted

Before the new Warsaw City Council was sworn in at 5 p.m. Wednesday, the old city council finished up its 2000 budget work at 4 p.m.

The council passed a resolution establishing the 2000 tax rate for Warsaw at $2.78, with an adjustment. The parks and recreation fund was increased from $103,010 to $180,000, while the general fund was decreased from $918,847 to $841,857.

Mayor Ernie Wiggins said that while the state board of accounts will make some adjustments because of the change, the tax rate will remain at $2.78.

The 1999 tax rate is $2.73.

In other business, Wiggins asked the council for permission to send a letter to NIPSCO regarding the two appraisals the city received for the NIPSCO building. NIPSCO requested the letter. The purchase of the building is contingent on Warsaw's finances and the environmental impact study.

The Warsaw City Council members going out of office are Mac Silveus, Porter Polston, Tammy Rockey and Dewey L. Lawshe.

The new members are Jeff Grose, Paul Siebenmorgen, Jerry Patterson, Trish Brown, Charlie Smith, Joseph Thallemer and William Rhoades.
