Kevin Planck will serve as Oakwood Cemetery Board of Regents president and Lewis Dobbins will serve as vice president. They will serve two-year terms. The approval was made during Thursday night’s board meeting. They join board members Ellen Hoffer and council representative Jerry Frush on the board. Hal Heagy, Oakwood Cemetery sexton, said he will discuss with Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer about a replacement for board member Don Bixel, who died. The board heard there were 241 burials in 2012 at the cemetery. The board signed 12 burial deeds, heard there were 16 burials in January and 16 burial lots sold in January. Heagy informed the board Jim Gause, former groundskeeper, has left his cemetery job to return to a previous job. Jeff Cox started Wednesday as groundskeeper at the cemetery. Heagy informed the board there is a dead oak tree in the cemetery that needs to come down as it was struck by lightning. There were 197 loads of leaves that were taken out from the cemetery and cemetery employees took the rest of the Christmas lights down Wednesday that were in downtown Warsaw. The board heard an Oakwood Cemetery mapping project for burial plots is complete where people can visit the county GIS system to see photos and obtain information about burial plots. The site is at www.kcgov.com under the Beacon Online Mapping tab. People can type in the name of the deceased, year of death and birth date and find where the deceased is buried in the cemetery.
