An administrator for a local nursing home was jailed Thursday evening on charges that he falsified information on a prescription for a controlled substance.
Richard Eric Clark, 35, of Indianapolis, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 6:45 p.m. Thursday on a charge of prescription fraud.
A prescription was filled in Clark's name and a description of the him as the suspect included that he was wearing an identification badge for Extendacare-Warsaw. Police learned that Clark is an administrator for the nursing home and is staying in a local motel.
A police report noted that Clark is already working with police in connection with a previous incident. Upon questioning Clark about Thursday's incident, he reportedly told Ptl. Brad Kellar of the Warsaw Police Department that he has a drug problem and was trying to get help.
Warsaw police were called about 4 p.m. by the pharmacist at the Owen's Supermarket branch of Horizon Pharmacy on East Center Street, Warsaw, after Clark reportedly filled a prescription for 120 tablets of codeine. The pharmacist told police he was familiar with the suspect's name because of a similar incident at Wal-Mart Pharmacy last week.
After Clark left the store, the pharmacist called the Indianapolis doctor who allegedly wrote the prescription. A nurse in the office of Dr. G. Speckman told police that no clearance was given by Speckman's office for the prescription.
When Clark was taken into custody, he was escorted to Extendcare to retrieve the bottle of pills from his desk drawer before being taken to the jail. He also gave police a plastic bag containing some of the pills from the prescription, as well as other pills. A total of 106 pills were confiscated.
The matter remains under investigation.
