Warsaw resident Jean Northenor received an award recently from the Indiana Chamber Of Commerce. The award was to honor her for assisting 25 years ago in starting the Policy Group Of Indiana Business For Responsive Government and her service to the organization. She retired this year from the organization that is overseen by the state chamber. The plaque she received states she is a steadfast advocate for the group’s mission to improve the General Assembly through active and targeted political action. It also states she has been a diligent public servant to a host of state and local boards and commissions as well as charitable endeavors for the betterment of the nation, state and her local area. The award was mailed to her home. “The group was started to identify existing and potential members of the General Assembly who are good business voters so if a business issue went through the General Assembly they would vote for the business issue,” Northenor said. Members of the group consist of business people, generally CEOs in Indiana. She received a plaque to honor her for her service that states she has provided unique and highly valuable insight for the group as a business and political party leader. Northenor said she is humbled to receive the award. “To me these are things I have had a wonderful time doing and didn’t need any thanks for it because I loved what I was doing and felt what I was doing was effective,” Northenor said. Northenor spoke about the importance of the Indiana chamber. “They are an advocate for business, and as we all know business is what runs the state from the economic side, and in order for business to be able to do the job that they need to do they need a General Assembly that understands business,” Northenor said. She said it is important for the General Assembly to be pro-business in the legislation they bring forward and how they vote on that legislation. Northenor served as Kosciusko County auditor from 1972 to 1981 and also previously served as Kosciusko County GOP chairwoman.
