North Webster Wraps Up Charrette, Looks Ahead To Beautification

NORTH WEBSTER - A charrette is the last, intense effort by architecture students to wrap up a lengthy project.

Ball State University School of Architecture students' charrette included three days worth of interviews with individuals and groups interested in seeing changes in North Webster.

For months the students, under the direction of Scott Truex, have studied the town, taking photographs and measurements, at the request of the North Webster and Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce.

The charrette is the end of the BSU proposal and the beginning of the North Webster Beautification Project.

Groups representing business, industry, and civic, religious and government agencies gave their opinions. There was active participation by residents and local students.

Before and after photos of the town were displayed, rendered by BSU Architecture Professor Harry Eggink, one of this country's leading renovation sketch artists.

Part of the North Webster design is available at the university Web site, www.bsu.edu/cbp.

A final presentation of the university's findings will be given Thursday at 7 p.m. in the North Webster United Methodist Church, Epworth Forest Road.

The students plan to have the results of the interviews and large color sketches available for the public to view.

A member of the BSU faculty will explain why they chose to redesign specific areas of town and how they arrived at their conclusions.

Following the April 20 meeting, Dekko Heating and Technologies will sponsor an organizational meeting May 9 at 5:30 p.m. to get the town's revitalization ball rolling.

Committees will be formed to institute a three-to five-year program to begin implementing the BSU ideas.

The public is invited to attend both meetings.
