NORTH WEBSTER – The North Webster Town Council signed a paving agreement during its meeting Tuesday.
Chris Harrison of Commonwealth Engineers told the board he had a Community Crossing Matching Grant bid agreement ready for approval. He recommended awarding the project to the lowest bidder, Brooks Construction Co. Inc., which submitted a base bid of $274,123. The engineer’s estimate for the project was $400,294.33.
Harrison said Commonwealth Engineers has worked with Brooks Construction on past projects with great success. Five bids were received earlier this month.
Paving is expected to begin in the spring in several areas of North Webster.
In other business, the board elected Dan Thystrup to serve again as town council president.
The following appointments were approved: Laura Kaufman as town attorney, Greg Church as town marshal and Dave May as detective/sergeant.
Church presented the police department’s December report. Officers logged 703.5 hours, drove 3,157 miles and used 281.29 gallons of fuel. The department responded to 191 calls for service, including 13 battery, fight or domestic calls; two theft or fraud calls; 23 traffic-related calls; 14 accidents or vehicles in ditches; 18 citizen assists or lockouts; and 11 agency assists for fire or EMS.
The board also approved memberships with the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers, Accelerate Indiana Municipalities, the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police and the North Webster–Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce.
Utilities Manager Mike Noe said all leaves have been collected. He added the town is running low on salt but will receive three additional loads from the state.
A committee is being formed for the 2026 USA Birthday Celebration, a countywide event. Board member Lisa Strombeck said she would be interested in serving on the committee.
The council approved a $250 donation to the Kids Business Fair, which will be held in March at the North Webster Community Center.
A public meeting for input on town park improvements is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 19 at the town hall annex. Town officials are meeting with HWC Engineering on Thursday to prepare for the public meeting.
A town resident requested that an alley west of Ind. 13 on Huntington Street be designated one-way, citing safety concerns and damage to his yard. The board recommended notifying the fire department and obtaining its approval before making a decision.
Another resident, Paula Miller, said a portion of Epworth Forest Road east of Ind. 13 needs repair due to cracking. She was told the road is scheduled for paving later this year, though parts fall under county highway jurisdiction once out of the town limits.
The next town council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 17.
